Why I created Better Leaders Together
I’m SHARON SMITH and I’m the creator of Better Leaders Together.
Like many managers, I found myself leading others before I really understood what leadership asked of me.
I cared deeply about doing a good job and wanted people to feel supported, but I also spent far too much time trying to keep everyone happy. I believed a good leader should have the answers, and I worried that asking for help might make people question whether I should be leading at all.
So I carried a great deal of it on my own. I replayed conversations, second-guessed decisions and wondered whether I had been too direct or not direct enough. I tried to solve problems myself, stepped in too quickly and took responsibility for things that did not always belong to me. From the outside, I was leading. On the inside, I was working incredibly hard to convince myself I was doing an acceptable job. It was exhausting, and I burnt out.
Looking back, I can see that I did not need someone to rescue me or tell me exactly what to do.
I needed somewhere I could talk through the situations that were occupying too much of my brain, that were keeping me awake at night, and that worried me in case I got it wrong.
Better Leaders Together is my answer to the space I wish I had back in the day: a place where practical support, shared experience and thoughtful challenge help people grow into the leaders they want to be.
I will bring my experience of leading, coaching and developing leaders, along with the frameworks, questions and resources I know can help.
Members will bring their own experience, curiosity and perspective.
The value will not come from pretending that one expert has every answer but it will come from owning our leadership together.
Who this leadership membership is for
A space for people who care about leading well.
You may be a manager, team leader, business owner, founder, school leader, department lead, charity leader or senior executive.
Your title and sector matter less than the responsibility you hold for other people.
You’ll feel at home here, in Better Leaders Together if:

This will be less suitable if:
Founding Membership
Help shape Better Leaders Together from the beginning.
Founding Members will help shape the early rhythm of the community, the themes we explore and the resources created.
You won’t be expected to design the membership. It simply means that your real questions and experiences will guide what becomes most useful.
As a thank you for joining early, you’ll keep your Founding Member rate for as long as your membership remains active.
Monthly membership will increase to £25 per month thereafter.
Annual membership increase to £250 per month thereafter.
Questions about Better Leadership Together
What if I’m not experienced enough?
You don’t need to earn your place. New and experienced leaders bring different perspectives. What matters is that you care about leading well and are willing to learn.
What if I have been leading for years?
This is not remedial support. Leadership keeps changing because people, teams and organisations change. This is a space for continuing development.
What if I can’t attend every live session?
Perfect attendance isn’t expected. Where appropriate, sessions will be recorded, and resources will be available between gatherings.
What if my question feels too small?
Those are often the questions that matter most. You don’t need a perfectly formed problem to ask for support.
What if I don’t like speaking in groups?
You won’t be pressured to speak. You can contribute, listen or move between the two. Hearing others’ questions can be just as useful.
You will lead better when you don’t have to work everything out alone.
