A community of thoughtful managers
Leadership is not one job. It is a thousand small moments.
The reality of leading people
It’s the conversation you want to get right. The decision you keep turning over. The team dynamic that doesn’t quite make sense.
You may look calm and capable from the outside while privately wondering whether to support, challenge, wait or step in.
That doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re leading real people, and real people rarely fit neatly into a textbook answer.
“Better Leaders Together gives you somewhere to bring the everyday leadership situations you keep mulling over, without judgement, so you can gain perspective and approach them more thoughtfully.”
Learning that continues beyond the session
Leadership development is not only about learning a model or attending a course. It is about noticing what happens when you put that learning into practice, reflecting on the outcome and continuing to develop your approach.
Better Leaders Together creates an ongoing rhythm of learning, application and reflection, helping you build leadership capability over time rather than leaving you to work everything out alone.
Better Leaders Together is a leadership community for people responsible for leading others.
If you’ve ever wished you had somewhere to talk through a difficult conversation before it happened, reflect on your leadership approach, ask a question without feeling judged, or simply be reminded that you’re not the only one finding leadership challenging, this is that place.
Membership gives you access to a private online community where thoughtful managers come together to learn, reflect and support one another, alongside practical leadership guidance from me.

Why I created Better Leaders Together
I’m SHARON SMITH and I’m the creator of Better Leaders Together.
Like many managers, I found myself leading others before I really understood what leadership asked of me.
I cared deeply about doing a good job and wanted people to feel supported, but I also spent far too much time trying to keep everyone happy. I believed a good leader should have the answers, and I worried that asking for help might make people question whether I should be leading at all.
So I carried a great deal of it on my own. I replayed conversations, second-guessed decisions and wondered whether I had been too direct or not direct enough. I tried to solve problems myself, stepped in too quickly and took responsibility for things that did not always belong to me. From the outside, I was leading. On the inside, I was working incredibly hard to convince myself I was doing an acceptable job. It was exhausting, and I burnt out.
Looking back, I can see that I did not need someone to rescue me or tell me exactly what to do.
I needed somewhere I could talk through the situations that were occupying too much of my brain, that were keeping me awake at night, and that worried me in case I got it wrong.
Better Leaders Together is my answer to the space I wish I had back in the day: a place where practical support, shared experience and thoughtful challenge help people grow into the leaders they want to be.
I will bring my experience of leading, coaching and developing leaders, along with the frameworks, questions and resources I know can help.
Members will bring their own experience, curiosity and perspective.
The value will not come from pretending that one expert has every answer but it will come from owning our leadership together.
Who Better Leaders Together is for
A space for people who care about leading well.
You may be a manager, team leader, business owner, founder, school leader, department lead, charity leader or senior executive.
Your title and sector matter less than the responsibility you hold for other people.
You’ll feel at home here, in Better Leaders Together if:
The way you lead genuinely matters to you.
You sometimes replay situations after everyone else has moved on.
You believe kindness and accountability can sit together.
You are willing to reflect, listen and be challenged.
You want to keep growing without pretending to have every answer.
This will be less suitable if:
You’re looking for rigid scripts, quick fixes or a way to control other people’s behaviour.
You’re looking for case-specific HR, employment law or formal procedural advice.
BLT focuses on leadership development, judgement and communication. It can help you prepare for conversations, clarify expectations, reflect on your approach and identify useful next steps.
Where a situation depends on your employer’s policies, formal procedures, employment law, safeguarding responsibilities or specialist advice, you will need to involve the appropriate person within your organisation.

Questions about Better Leaders Together
-
Better Leaders Together is for managers and people leaders who care about doing leadership well and want somewhere useful to keep learning, thinking and developing.
You might be relatively new to managing people, have been doing it for years, or simply be facing situations where you would value another perspective. You don’t need a particular job title or level of seniority. What matters is that you have responsibility for people and want to lead them thoughtfully, confidently and well.
-
Better Leaders Together gives you ongoing leadership learning and development that connects directly with the realities of your role.
You will have access to practical learning, reflective conversations, useful resources and peer perspectives. Together, these help you strengthen your communication, judgement, confidence and self-awareness over time.
Rather than providing answers to individual employee cases, BLT helps you develop how you think, communicate and lead across the situations you encounter.
-
Yes. In fact, that is a big part of what Better Leaders Together is for.
You can bring everyday leadership situations taking up space in your head: a conversation you need to prepare for, expectations you need to clarify, a boundary you need to set, a team dynamic you want to understand or a decision about how you want to lead.
Situations must be shared without names or identifying details. BLT will help you reflect, hear different perspectives and identify the next helpful leadership step. It will not determine formal action or provide case-specific HR, legal or policy advice.
-
No. Better Leaders Together is a leadership development community, not an HR advisory or legal service.
BLT can help you think through the leadership and communication aspects of an everyday situation, prepare for a conversation, reflect on your assumptions and identify questions you may need to ask.
Where a matter involves formal procedure, employment terms, health, discrimination, safeguarding, grievance, disciplinary action or another policy-sensitive issue, you should follow your organisation’s procedures and seek appropriate HR, legal or specialist advice. BLT can still help you prepare to lead well once that guidance has been obtained.
-
BLT can support you with many of the everyday challenges that come with leading people.
That might include preparing for difficult conversations, communicating expectations, approaching informal performance conversations, responding constructively to conflict, building confidence, managing boundaries and making thoughtful leadership decisions.
-
BLT supports development through a continuing cycle of learning, application and reflection. You will explore relevant leadership ideas and practical approaches, apply them within your own role and have opportunities to reflect on what happened and what you want to develop next.
Over time, this can help you strengthen your judgement, communication, confidence, self-awareness and ability to respond thoughtfully to different leadership situations.
-
Courses and training can be valuable, particularly when you need to learn a new skill or approach. The difficulty is that leadership rarely happens neatly during a training session.
The challenging conversation tends to appear afterwards. The team dynamic changes. Someone reacts differently from the way you expected. You know the theory, but you are not quite sure how to apply it.
Better Leaders Together is designed to sit alongside those real experiences. It gives you somewhere to keep learning, reflecting and applying what you know over time rather than expecting one course to provide everything you will ever need as a manager.
-
That is one of the reasons I created Better Leaders Together.
Managing people can sometimes be surprisingly isolating. There may be situations you don’t want to discuss with your team, things you can’t easily raise with colleagues, or times when the person you normally turn to is simply too close to the situation.
BLT gives you an additional place to reflect on the leadership aspects of those questions. You can hear different perspectives, think things through and decide what feels like the most useful and appropriate way forward.
You do not have to have everything figured out before you arrive. Sometimes simply having somewhere to think properly makes all the difference.
-
You do not need to feel like an experienced or confident leader before joining Better Leaders Together.
BLT is designed to support people who are still finding their feet as managers as well as those who have been leading for some time. You may be stepping into management for the first time, taking on more responsibility or simply trying to work out what good leadership looks like in practice.
You are not expected to arrive with all the answers. Curiosity, willingness to reflect and a genuine desire to lead people well matter far more than how long you have been in post.
-
Yes. Experience does not remove the need for somewhere to think.
More experienced leaders often face more complex people issues, competing priorities and situations where there is no obvious right answer. BLT can give you space to step outside the day-to-day pressure, reflect on how you are leading and hear perspectives you may not otherwise encounter.
It is not about going back to basics. It is about continuing to develop your judgement, self-awareness and approach as your leadership evolves.
-
There is no expectation that you have to contribute constantly, attend everything or always have something insightful to say.
BLT works best when members are willing to engage in a way that feels manageable for them. That might mean joining conversations, bringing a question, sharing an experience, reflecting on something you have learned or simply listening when that is what you need.
What matters most is respect, openness and a willingness to think about your own leadership. You can take part in a way that fits your role, your workload and where you are at.
You will lead better when you don’t have to work everything out alone.
Join a private, carefully moderated leadership community where members are expected to protect confidentiality, think honestly, gain perspective and continue becoming the leaders they want to be.
