What Matters to Me at Own Your Leadership
Because how we work with people matters just as much as what we achieve.
When I established Own Your Leadership, I knew I wanted to create a business that reflected not only my experience and expertise, but also who I am and what I believe in.
I've always cared deeply about the people I work with. I want to get to know them, understand what matters to them and give them the best support I possibly can.
That hasn't changed, whether I'm coaching someone individually, working with a leadership team or designing a development day for an organisation.
I'm not interested in delivering something simply because it's what I've delivered before. I want to understand what's needed, create something genuinely valuable and give people the opportunity to think differently, develop their confidence and put their learning into practice.
The values below aren't simply words I think sound good. They're the principles I use to make decisions, shape my work and hold myself accountable.
They guide how I run my business, how I treat people and what you can expect when you work with me.
My Vision
Throughout my career, I've seen the difference that good leadership can make, not only to how organisations perform, but to how people feel about themselves, their work and the contribution they make.
I've also seen what happens when people find themselves responsible for leading others without the confidence, skills or support they need.
I believe that leading people is a responsibility that deserves care, thought and ongoing development. And I don't believe that achieving results and looking after people should ever be seen as competing priorities.
My vision is to help create workplaces where thoughtful, capable and accountable leadership is the norm, not the exception.
Workplaces where people feel valued, supported and able to contribute, and where those responsible for leading them have the confidence and capability to make good decisions, have meaningful conversations and achieve results without losing sight of the people involved.
That's the difference I want Own Your Leadership to contribute to.
The Values Behind Own Your Leadership
-
People matter, and I want them to know it.
I care about the people I work with. Not just their professional development, but their experiences, challenges, ambitions and wellbeing.
I want clients to feel genuinely seen, heard and supported. That means giving people my attention, listening without judgement and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
It also means being willing to have honest conversations and offer constructive challenge. Because sometimes the most caring thing we can do is help someone see something they haven't yet recognised.
What this means for you: You'll work with someone who is genuinely interested in you, cares about your experience and is committed to providing thoughtful, meaningful support.
-
I get to know the people behind the roles.
Relationships matter to me. I enjoy getting to know people, understanding what makes them tick and building the trust that allows us to have meaningful conversations.
I also know that no two people, teams or organisations are the same.
That's why I take time to understand your circumstances before deciding what coaching or development might look like. My approach is tailored to your needs, rather than expecting you to fit into a standard programme.
What this means for you: You can expect a warm, personable relationship and a development experience designed with your circumstances, challenges and ambitions in mind.
-
Integrity matters, particularly when decisions aren't straightforward.
Honesty, fairness and doing what I believe is right are important to me.
I want people to trust that I'll be open with them, do what I say I'll do and offer advice and support that genuinely serves their interests.
I won't tell you what I think you want to hear simply to make a conversation easier. I'll ask questions, challenge respectfully and be honest about what I can and cannot offer.
That same principle applies to how I run Own Your Leadership and the business decisions I make.
What this means for you: You can expect honesty, transparency, respect and someone who is prepared to have the conversations that matter.
-
Your time, trust and investment matter to me.
When you choose to work with Own Your Leadership, you're placing trust in me. I don't take that lightly.
Whether it's a single coaching conversation or a full leadership development programme, I want the experience to be worth your investment.
I bring preparation, creativity, professional knowledge and practical experience to my work. I think carefully about what people need, how best to engage them and how to make the learning relevant to their working lives.
And I'm always learning myself, looking for ways to improve what I do and bring even more value to my clients.
What this means for you: You can expect thoughtfully designed, high-quality development that respects your time and money and focuses on learning you can actually use.
-
My role isn't to have all the answers. It's to help you discover and develop your own.
I believe people are capable of far more than they sometimes give themselves credit for.
Good coaching and leadership development shouldn't create dependency. It should help people understand themselves better, think more clearly, explore possibilities and build confidence in their own judgement.
I'll support you, encourage you and challenge you. I'll share ideas, tools and approaches that might help.
But ultimately, your decisions, actions and development belong to you.
That's what Own Your Leadership is all about.
What this means for you: My aim is that you leave our work together with greater confidence, clarity and capability to take your own next steps.
Building a Business That Reflects These Values
These values aren't only about how I work with clients. They also guide how I run Own Your Leadership.
I want to build a thriving, respected and sustainable business that allows me to do meaningful work, continually develop my own practice and make a positive difference to the people and organisations I support.
That means being thoughtful about the work I take on, the relationships I build and the commitments I make.
It means valuing my own time and wellbeing as well as those of my clients.
And it means never losing sight of why I established Own Your Leadership in the first place: to help people develop the confidence, awareness and practical skills to lead themselves and others well.
Bringing These Values to Life Through Better Leaders Together
My values also shape the experiences and communities I create through Own Your Leadership, including Better Leaders Together.
Better Leaders Together is a community for people who are serious about developing how they lead, but who recognise that nobody has all the answers.
It's built around five shared values: Belonging, Respect, Generosity, Curiosity and Putting Learning into Practice.
These values guide how members connect, share experiences, challenge one another and learn together.
I want it to be somewhere people can talk openly about the realities of leading others, explore different perspectives and find encouragement, practical ideas and support. A place where people can be ambitious for themselves and their organisations, while remaining thoughtful about the impact their decisions have on others.
Because I don't believe we have to choose between achieving results and caring about people. Good leadership requires both.
And while Better Leaders Together has its own identity and community values, it grows from the same beliefs that underpin everything I do through Own Your Leadership.
