Reigniting Performance with Sales Team Motivation Training

Understanding the Context

When a national sales team at Pure Leisure Group prepared for their busiest season, their CEO, John, noticed something crucial — the team were capable, experienced, and committed, but they were also tired, jaded, and struggling to maintain belief in themselves.

That’s when John reached out to me at Own Your Leadership. He wanted a meaningful intervention, not a typical sales training day, but something that would genuinely reignite motivation, strengthen mindset, and rebuild self-belief. Together, we designed and delivered a bespoke sales team motivation training day that gave his people space to reflect, reconnect, and refocus on what truly matters.

Pure Leisure Group’s sales team operate across the UK. They rarely have the opportunity to meet face-to-face, which can lead to disconnection and fatigue.

John knew that before heading into another demanding season, the team needed time to:

  • Reflect on their recent successes and challenges

  • Reconnect with purpose and shared goals

  • Strengthen confidence and communication

  • Build practical tools to sustain energy and motivation long-term

So we decided to run my Review, Revise, Reignite programme — a one-day, fully tailored sales team motivation training session designed around the real context, pressures, and personalities of the group.

Unlocking the Challenge

A Bespoke Approach to Motivation and Mindset

Before the sales team motivation training session, I worked closely with John and the leadership team to understand the roles, dynamics, and highs and lows the team had experienced. This insight allowed me to contextualise every element of the programme, ensuring it spoke directly to their lived experience.

The day was structured around three key phases:

  1. Review – Taking stock of what’s worked well, celebrating achievements, and identifying patterns of success.

  2. Revise – Recognising barriers, shifting unhelpful mindsets (like imposter syndrome), and exploring new ways to approach challenges.

  3. Reignite – Reconnecting with purpose, defining success on their own terms, and setting realistic, motivating goals for the year ahead.

I created a safe, confidential space where the team could share honestly, reflect deeply, and support one another. Through a mix of guided reflection, partner exercises, and group discussions, participants built confidence, emotional intelligence, and connection.

Over the course of the day, the group explored:

  • Self-evaluation of strengths, challenges, and current roles

  • Personal values and professional drivers — what truly motivates them

  • Addressing mindset blockers like imposter syndrome and fear of failure

  • Improving emotional intelligence and communication across the team

  • Reflecting on setbacks and learning from experience

  • Reconnecting with purpose and defining success in their own words

  • Creating a Personal Re-ignition Plan for continued growth and well-being

We also focused on well-being at work, discussing balancing energy, time, and priorities to avoid burnout, a key theme in sales environments.

What the Day Looked Like for the Sales Team Training Session?

A Day of Energy, Connection, and Insight

Bringing a national team together in one room created powerful results.

For many, it was the first time they’d been able to share stories, learn from one another, and reconnect beyond day-to-day pressures.

Participants described the day as “inspiring,” “empowering,” and “eye-opening.”

They valued the balance of individual reflection, partner discussions, and group sharing, and several noted how energising it felt to step back and focus on themselves for once.

Results and Participant Feedback

Twenty members of the sales team attended the session — and the results were overwhelmingly positive:

  • 100% of participants said the session met or exceeded expectations.

  • 95% rated the day 5 out of 5 for enjoyment and value.

  • 100% said it was worth taking time away from their day job.

  • 90% said they would find it useful to attend again.

Outcomes for the Team

From the feedback and discussions, the outcomes were clear:

  • A renewed sense of purpose and positivity heading into the new season

  • Stronger peer connections and collaboration across regions

  • Increased self-awareness and ownership of mindset and performance

  • Tools to manage time, focus, and well-being more effectively

  • Greater belief in their ability to influence success through reflection and structure.

Several participants shared that they left with a clearer plan for how to stay motivated and manage their workload sustainably; many even commented on taking these learnings home to improve balance in their personal lives too!

Why It Worked

A group of hands linked into a circle

This success came down to three elements that define all my work at Own Your Leadership:

Contextualisation — no generic slides or standardised training. Everything was tailored to the team’s reality.

Connection — creating a trusted environment where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

Commitment — helping individuals turn insight into sustainable action.

Extending the Impact: 1-1 Leadership Coaching for Senior Managers

Building on the success of the sales team motivation training day, I was invited to stay for a second day to work individually with several of Pure Leisure Group’s senior managers, deepening the impact through personalised 1:1 leadership coaching.

On the second day of my time with Pure Leisure Group, I was invited to work individually with some of their senior sales managers. These bespoke one-to-one leadership coaching sessions built on the insights and momentum from the team motivation day, giving leaders space to reflect on their own approach and strengthen the impact they have on others.

Their reflections speak volumes about the depth of impact these sessions created — both personally and professionally.

Sharon takes an unbiased approach and uses specific questions that really get you thinking. The session gave me clarity and a new perspective - writing goals down made it easier to see what was right for me and how to move forward.

Working with Sharon was an absolute dream. Her relaxed and informal style made it easy to express myself honestly, resulting in sound, constructive feedback that I could take away and grow from. It was the first time I’d felt someone really ‘got me’. The insights were relevant, personal, and helped me lead with renewed focus and authenticity.
— Sales Manager, Pure Leisure Group

Each 1:1 session lasted around an hour and was tailored to the individual’s goals, challenges, and leadership style. We explored topics such as building confidence in decision-making, fine-tuning communication, balancing empathy with direction, and reconnecting with personal values to sustain motivation.

Despite the short timeframe, the sessions brought lasting benefits. Participants reported leaving with:

  • Greater clarity and focus about their leadership approach

  • Increased self-awareness and belief in their ability to lead authentically

  • Renewed motivation to inspire and empower their teams

  • Practical tools for goal setting and reflection they could immediately apply

These 1:1 coaching conversations extended the value of the overall engagement, ensuring the renewed energy from the sales team motivation training was also felt at a leadership level.

They provided a moment for senior managers to pause, refocus, and reconnect with who they are as leaders, setting the tone for sustainable motivation and wellbeing across the wider team.
